Community Development News

Phipps CDC announces the Phipps Classic Center, its new community center in the Melrose section of the Bronx. The Phipps Classic Center offers a wide range of after-school and summer programs for elementary school children and teens that include academic enhancement, sports and recreation, arts and cultural activities, life skills, and community involvement. This is Phipps CDC's third program site in the neighborhood, following the recent launch of the Phipps Opportunity Center and senior services at La Casa de Felicidad.

The Phipps Classic Center, located at 286 East 156th St, Bronx, features 22,000 square feet of space including four classrooms, a computer lab, full-size gym, commercial kitchen, and community garden. Recreation and learning activities for children aged 6-12 include computers, multicultural cooking, gardening, basketball, chess, dance, reading, arts & crafts, and team fitness. The teen program features a similar range of activities along with group outings such as bowling, ice skating, skiing, leadership retreats, and college tours.
