For Immediate Release

New York industry leaders in building management, education, and workforce development have gathered in Phipps Neighborhoods’ Advisory Committee to create a new career pipeline. This new training course will prepare aspiring professionals from the Bronx community and Phipps Houses residences with the skills and connections necessary to land jobs in building management. The new program model will draw insight from Phipps Neighborhoods’ 10-week Career Network: Healthcare program.

Phipps Neighborhoods Building Services Advisory Committee members include:

• Committee Lead Facilitator – Dr. Bruce Carmel, Bruce Carmel Consulting

Talia Barzel, The Door – Bronx Youth Center
Timothy Dyer, Hostos Community College
Richard Harris, 32BJ Training Fund
Peter Mertens, Hostos Community College

Jessica Vicuna, Euclid Training, Inc.

The Advisory Committee held its inaugural meeting on March 24, 2021, and will seek to finalize the program’s design by Summer 2021. This new career development program will launch in 2022.

“This project is doing it right,” says Dr. Bruce Carmel. “I’m honored and eager to get to work on such a quality program that will lead to good jobs and bright futures.”

Andre White, Executive Director and CEO of Phipps Neighborhoods – “With unemployment so high in the Bronx, expanding the success and scope of our career development programs is a necessary next step for Phipps Neighborhoods and our community. New Yorkers want to start new, promising careers, and this new initiative will make that possible. I am so grateful to our Advisory Committee members for joining this movement.”
