Phipps Neighborhoods Hosts New York City Businesses at Veterans Day Job Fair

Connecting Employers and Community Members in the South Bronx

November 5, 2014 Bronx, NY – On Tuesday, November 11, 2014, Phipps Neighborhoods, in collaboration with Public Advocate Letitia James, State Senator Gustavo Rivera, and Council Members Vanessa L. Gibson and Maria Del Carmen Arroyo, hosts its first Job Fair at the Crotona Park Pool House in the Bronx from 11am to 3pm, bringing together over 20 New York City businesses and non-profit organizations.

Employers in attendance include the New York City Fire and Police Departments, Fresh Direct and Prudential, who will have the opportunity to interview candidates on site. The Job Fair will also include information on vocational training programs, including Phipps Neighborhoods’ Career Network: Healthcare, a career development program that helps young adults secure healthcare-related employment and/or education credentials.

“A key part of Phipps Neighborhoods’ mission is to help our unemployed and underemployed community members find meaningful employment with growth potential, earning a living wage that develops their careers and improves their quality of life,” said Dianne Morales, Executive Director and CEO of Phipps Neighborhoods. “We appreciate the support of our elected officials and are excited that so many of the businesses in the Bronx community have partnered with us to connect our local talent to existing opportunities.”

“While we are improving the climate for economic development in the Bronx, events like this Job Fair still play a vital role in connecting employers throughout our region with those looking for work,” Council Member Vanessa L. Gibson (D-Bronx, 16th CD) said. “This is an excellent opportunity for people to find opportunities that are available in today’s dynamic and ever changing job market. I really appreciate the hard work Phipps Neighborhoods has put into organizing this important event and look forward to working with partners like Public Advocate Letitia James, State Senator Gustavo Rivera and Councilwoman Maria Del Carmen Arroyo moving forward.”

“Events, like this job fair, directly impact our efforts to continue to improve unemployment in our borough. It connects employers looking to fill positions with the Bronx’s diverse workforce and it brings resources to our community that aim to help those Bronxites struggling to identify job opportunities,” said State Senator Gustavo Rivera. “I am very grateful to have the opportunity to work with Phipps Neighborhoods, Public Advocate Letitia James, and Councilmembers Vanessa Gibson and Maria del Carmen Arroyo in helping our borough move forward.”

Candidates of all ages, experience levels and industries are welcome. If you are an employer and/or vocational training program and would like to reserve a booth at the job fair, please call (718) 716-1128 by Friday, November 7, 2014.
